Here is a story of a wife being turned to a pillar of salt. makes me wonder how many husband wish there spouse would turn to salt because of frustration they might feel they have? Lol!! The reason why she had been turned to salt was she looked back to see if the city of Sodom and Gomorrah was being destroyed. Rebelling against her husband's advice and the Lord's not to look back. Really what does her story here represent to us? Let's take a look at her and her story. What lessons she happens to teach us about testimonies and looking back and holding on to old ideas.
We know that Lot's story he was a host to holy men in his house. Since we know this we can make an assumption that she was a host of hostesses and enjoyed the company of others. Being the hostess tried to make everyone comfortable that entered into her house. She would be a welcoming face to all that came to her house with friendliness. We also know that holy men came in and told them after men came to attack that lot should gather his family and that they needed to leave the city of Sodom. Being said Lot takes his family and leaves warning them not to look back otherwise they would be destroyed.
as they are traveling away from Sodom and Gomorrah his wife 's curiosity she turns around to see if the city was being destroyed. Lots wife is then turned into a pillar of salt. There are lessons that she teaches us on trusting the plan laid out by God to save us. She teaches us that God provides us a way to get out of bed situaitions. Many times instead of going with the plan we look back or look at the problem and struggle with the plan or decision to make a right choice. We say a Lot to our selves how can that solution really help me out in my situation? We then go about and make decisions on our own knowledge even when we have the help to get out of the issue we have making it worse on ourself. We falter to see a bigger picture in life that the Lord sees for us and see through the pin hole in the paper as a small opening and what good can that do for me. Being said we falter to see our salvation in the Lord and make the steps harder in life that we need to do to turn around our situation whatever it may be; we keep struggling through it all and trust our own instincts instead of God's will for us.
When we look at the things that salt does for good we can see other lessons that Lot's wife also teaches us. Salt happens to be a preserving agent along with making food taste good, and when you put salt on some fruits it being out the sweetness from it. So here with Lots wife we see a person who God is trying to preserve by giving them a way out of being destroyed with the city. Then we see that he wants to give her a taste of his mercy by having them leave Sodom and Gomorrah. The next thing we see God doing is he want s to give them the sweet taste of his glory through salvation and blessings to be bestowed upon them. The same way he wants to do for us in bringing forth the sweetness of blessings on our life in following him or even returning back to him after walking away from his teachings. Lots wife decided in the journey to look back and see what was left behind. Her curiosity to see if the city was being destroyed caused her to turn to a pillar of salt. Like in life it's a choice of what we do in our own circumstances of half-dozen and using the resources provided for us. We can become God-focused or we can become stuck unwilling to move forward.
Lots wife decided instead of preserving her life she would rather it be destroyed. Instead of trusting in the Lord and his word she let her hearts desire and rebellion of not listening to a warning preserve her in a life to be remembered as a lesson to be learned. Maybe she let her fear get to her of what lies ahead of her, or maybe she still desires the life style she had in Sodom and Gomorrah. Just like Lots wife we forget to rely and trust in the Lord and we forget to walk by faith. We learn to walk by our own insight and return to the place we began the values we truly hold on to in our hearts. We then throw away chances and blessings that might be been in store for us or a goal we might be set and been able to achieve with a plan. We as humans let fear of the unknown be out in front of us that we date not go further in our plans. We can even do the opposite and let that fear take us to a goal set for ourself to achieve. We will at times look back and feel like moving forward is impossible especially when we know God is on our side and still be afraid to do anything at all. Even though we have a plan to make things in life possible. Leaving that feeling of being stuck in the same place unwilling to learn more and grow on our faith, our testimonies, our love for his his son and the people around us.
There is that lesson of learning that by listening to the Lord's words that the scriptures say and the teachings the prophets talk about that God does provide a possible way back. Even if it may feel impossible at times to love by. He knows we will make mistakes but that is why he sent his son to us the world to be able to make it back to him. We can preserve our lives into God or turn to a pillar of salt and be a non-preserving agent with no growth in our life. Even when we do start to move forward we at times look back even when we ask for forgiveness. at those times we just got to remember our desires of the heart is where we turn to keep them where you want them that is where you will end up is by making those desires manifested. If our hearts desires aren't there to follow the Lord it won't matter if anyone is there pulling us along. It's the strength of our own testimonies. Making a decision to vicariously in our own desires. The key to understanding where we have been where we want to be and where we are actually heading is the desire of heart and where we place it in our life. We can look at our own life, and by doing so we can see the lesson God teaches us through others our own experiences and be taught and learn and we can also see where are choices have vicariously taken us to.
When we think about the pillar of salt that Lot's wife was transformed to we can see the representation of the want of old being captive to our own desires and God's want of preserving us. Which that last of want of old can hold us back because of guilt that we might feel for the wrongs we have done. But by remembering God and his love and mercy , and began to trust him that God does have a love and does show mercy to us when we turn to him and trust. We can learn to be unstuck from situations and learn to trust the helping hand that God plays with us. Life isn't about being stuck it's about learning to grow and deal with the things that life throws at us and taking responsibility for the choices we make. I know there have been times in my life that living by God's laws may feel restricting but in the end it is God's way of showing us his love. Like a parent with a child we are hard on them because we love them and know they can do their best and that straightening they put their mind to.
We can't always be a fence sitters in life. Eventually while we sit on the fence a choice will be made for us. So we can either decide to take action one way or another. Or the action we decide to do will be decided for us which then does become a decision. We sometimes decide we like the comforts of 2world's but in the end we can turn to salt like Lots wife.
