Adah and Zillah Lamech's Wives
Adah and Zillah
These two women were the wives of Lamech. They are also the very first women mentioned to be in a polygamy marriage. the first polygamist mentioned in the bible. There's not a whole lot mentioned about them. Yet we can still learn of these two women by their choices that they made. They also played a significant role in spreading the secret works that man would do in following satan. These secret works are mentioned in the book of Mormon as will. They are works were man made covenants with satan instead of god.
What we learn from the scriptures is Adah was the mother of Jabal (the father of tent-makers) and Jubal ( the father of the harp and organ). Zillah she happened to be the mother of Tubal Cain (instructor of brass and iron) and his sister Naamah. To me it looks like they helped encourage traits in their life for living. Adah's boys developed a craft that they could live by and teach others a bout. Zillah's son knew the metals from the earth and how to work them such as a blacksmith would be able to do.
As we read through the scriptures we learn that Lamech came to his wives and told them to listen to what he had to say. He let them know he just killed a man to his hurt. That vengeance was his seventh-seven fold. He was now the master of a great secret that was administered into Cain by Satan himself. He had also entered into that covenant with him (Moses 5:48).
Being taught through my readings of the book of Mormon that secret combination are the secret works of man concentrated with satan. Man does his works against those who either believe in God or those that want to gain power.(Moses 5:51) For from the days of Cain , there was a secret combination, and their works were in the dark. And they knew every man and his brother. They knew each other who joined in doing these works never speaking them to anyone else
These secret works that Lamech had spoken about brought his household a curse upon them from the Lord. Having told his wives Adah and Zillah about the secret works and covenants he made. I'm assuming they were sworn to secrecy from Lamech never to speak the words to other souls how the secret society worked. When they needed up speaking the words it cost Lamech a lot in his life. They deliberately rebelled against their husband and (Moses 5:53) declared these things abroad, and has not compassion on Lamech. These words were even spread to the righteous sons of Adam. Moses 5:52-53 it was among the sons of men. And among the daughters of men these things were not spoken. They shared the unspoken word among those that didn't know what the secret works were. Because of Adah and Zillah having no compassion of what may come of their husband and spread how the secret works worked among all the people their husband ended up being despised, cast out of the society, and even sought after to be killed. In Moses 5:55 and this the works of darkness began to prevail among the sons of men. So we see more and more people learned the trait and turned away from God because of them teaching how to go about Satan's work instead of following god.
they thing that I learned is they helped spread the secret works that spread so quickly among the sons of men by allowing others to learn not in the society. That they could not keep a secret and that they had no feelings toward their husband that they could rebel easily against him. Makes you wonder if it was for their own gain in their society. That by spreading the works that satan devised they contributed to helping destroy mankind. We learn that their love of serving the devil was greater than their compassion toward husband and family that they were willing to destroy their own family. That they had a great influence among man in spreading Satan's work.
the other we can learn is that God watches everything we do. If our passions at turned so far away from him through making a covenant with the other side he also has a way of punishment for us. He sees our hearts and knows our desires and intentions. Just like the devil knows it as will and can use it to an advantage of getting us to turn against god.
Where does your heart stand? Does your heart stand with spreading God's work or satans? How can our actions show where we truly stand with god? Is there a way to help God's light shine through you through your works? do you ever feel like your life is a secret because you can't be who you truly are because of the teachings of way society good or evil? Do ever feel like your actions or even realize how much of an effect they have On people around you? Look at Adah and Zillah how did their actions and up affecting their family so you think?
I feel sometimes we we don't realize how much of an influence that are actions can have on society or the way we interact with others even own family members! I personally feel when we sit back and realize how much of a role and influence and impact we have On each other's lives do we start to change. Either way our influence is greatest among our family members on they way we treat them. Makes the biggest impact on lives especially our children, spouses, and even sibling, and we can't forget our parents who love is unconditionally daily.
