Five Daughters of Ishmael

1 Nephi 7:1 Lord spake into him again saying that it was not meet for him, lehi, that he should take his family into the wilderness alone, but his son's should take daughters to wife, that they might raise sees up to the Lord in the land of promise. How would it be to have the sons of Lehi come to your door saying to your father come follow us. My father requests that you come follow so we can marry your daughters. We will also be taken to a land of promise and it's not meant just for our family alone but for yours as will. Now your faced with leaving everything behind but also following God's commandment. Ishmael happened to be a righteous friend of Lehi. Who happened to be an Ephriamite from Jerusalem. As we see his son's leave to go get Ishmael family we see a fulfillment in fulfilling God's commandment. They were willing to follow their father and trust in walking blindly to their new life. Taking the trip in the wilderness to become Lehi's sons wives. The...

Sariah Raising a Family

I've been thinking on Sariah and how to best sum her faith her trials all up. Can't really go any further than the trials she faced raising a family up and following a husband she seen as a visionary man. The thing that I can mainly tell though from Sariah She loves her family. She tried to read her children up into god. Sariah gained a personal testimony in God's work and will that even raising her family up towards God sometimes seemed impossible. As mothers when there are other siblings we face just like Sariah rebellion one towards another. We see each direction of our children go towards God or even away from God and find ourselves torn. Sariah has to of home through different emotions with her children. Nephi portrayed his mom very will. He must have loved his mom a lot to include her sufferings i to his story of travel. The sons love of his mom leaving a big impact on hi a life and upbringing. What it took for his mom to raise them through all their trials. Sariah ...

Sariah Leaving and Receiving an Inheritance

Sariah and her husband must be had a great inheritance in Jerusalem. She makes the comment to Lehi that they left their inheritance behind when talking about her boys when she became frustrated about Lehi sending them off. Makes me wonder what might have been growing through her mind? What type of life they actually possessed in the land? What strength she must of had to leave it all behind and follow into the wilderness with her children. To follow a visionary man her own husband that he was really do the Lord's will. Then to have faith to trust God that this was the right thing to do. The past couple of days I have been thinking on Sariah leaving her inheritance that she had in Jerusalem behind. Then I started thinking of the trials she would be gone through the wilderness. Then the last thing I thought about is getting to the new world hitting land finally and receiving the new inheritance. So I started to ponder on the lessons that she could teach me. When the thought crossed ...

Rebekah the Fears of a Mother

We all have fears as a mother of what each one of our children are capable of doing to the other. Or we might fear who our child could possibly do in their life? The next thing we see with Rebekah is her telling Isaac that he didn't want Jacob to marry one of the locals and to send him off to the land were their ancestors were from to find  a wife. A lot of her decision was that she also feared for Jacobs life from his brother Esau. She also asks Isaac to send Jacob away to find a wife because she did not want him to marry one of the locals. Rebekah wanted the best that she could provide to her children. Especially for Jacob after his brother became angry. No matter the age of seems as a parent we are always looking out for those we love. We as mothers of woman seem to have fears that can not be explained. Our hearts love so deeply that it breaks when our own children do not get along and go after each other. Some children feel the favoritism of another and jealousy consu...

Sariah Comforted By Lehi

Sariah Comforted By Lehi 1 Nephi 5:1-9 And it came to pass that after we had come down into the wilderness into our father, behold, he was filled with joy, and also my mother,Sariah was exceedingly glad, for she truly mourned because of us. For she had supposed that we had perished in the wilderness, and she also had complained against my father, telling him that he was a visionary man, saying: behold thou hast led us forth from the land of our inheritance, and my son's are no more, and we perish in the wilderness. And after this manner had my mother complained against my father. And it came to pass that my father spake into her saying: I know that I am a visionary man; for if I have not seen the things of God in vision i should not have known the goodness of god, but had carried at Jerusalem and had perished with my brethren. And after this manner of language did my father comfort my mother Sariah, concerning us, while we journeyed in the wilderness up to the land of Jerusalem ...

Rebekah a Mothers Guidance

Rebekah a Mothers Guidance Rebekah we know when she inquired of the lord with the twins received divine inspiration in guidance of her children. We learn as her story goes along that she loved Jacob more and Isaac loved esau more. Each parent giving the child they loved most their absolute attention. How would that be to know that you were the favorite of one parent? How would it also be to know one child would be blessed over the other and as a parent you help along the blessings for the one you favor? We also learn that the twins take different paths in their life. Easy being a cunning hunter and a man of the field and Jacob was a plain mg who dwelt in tents.   What was rebekahs revelation about the twins? We learn in he said 25:23 and the lord said into her, Two nations are in your womb, and two manner of people shall be segregated from the bowels: and the one people shall be stronger than the other people: and the elder shall serve the younger. Would this have an effect on...

Rebekah History Repeats

Rebekah History Repeats In Rebekah's story we see the same steps repeat itself like her mother in law Sarah and Abraham. You know that saying " those that don't know the past are doomed to repeat it! " the same story but a different time and different a different couple. In Rebekahs story we see her and Isaac go to Palestine with king abimelech telling him the same story as Isaacs parents did. That they were brother and sister. Abimelech sees them being flirtatious with each other and realized that they are married. In our lives sometimes we have things that happen to repeat over and over again. Making us feel like we are stuck and not growing. Here in Rebekahs situation we see a repeat of history. How many times in our life have we ever read an ancestors story and realize we are going through a situation similar as theirs. Is there a hint in their story that can help us learn from their mistakes or situation that can help us even get through our mistake or situa...

Sariah Murmurs

Sariah Murmurs Sariah here in the Book of Mormon gets mad at her husband for sending her boys off to gather their records. Scared for her son's lives. We can look at it from the point of view was she trying to stop what Lehi was being told or from a mother's point of view who sends her son's off scared? What point do you take it as? I think I'm life no matter the age of our children we are scared to send them off to grow. Mothers we rationalize everything. Here in this moment and time period i see a woman who is scared for the safety of her son's and gets so upset that she murmurs against her husband. The fact that she does what any of us would do we want to be the mama bear and protect them from any type of danger. Sariah love her son's and knowing the danger of the mission that the lord wants her son's to do she still inside is asking that question all of us mothers do why? Why would you risk my child's life to complete the work that needs to be ...

Rebekah Seeks out Answers

Rebekah Seeks out Answers (Prayer and Personal Revelations) We see in Rebekahs life that she felt troubled about her pregnancy. She then seeks out an answer and goes to the lord with her problem. The Lord then answers her prayers and let's Rebekah know that she is carrying two nations within her womb. That is why she felt that her stomach was being torn apart because they were fighting amongst themselves. if anyone has ever carried twins that's exactly how it feels like your being torn one way to another inside your stomach. The other thing she was told is that one will be more blessed than the other. How many times in our life do we seek out the lord in prayer for answers to our personal problems? Do you ever feel like you get the answers that you were looking for? Do you think that the lord have you any personal revelation to the problem? How do you react to the answer and also help your personal revelation along? Many times in our life we have set backs. We become un...

Rebekah Marries Isaac

Rebekah Marries Isaac Rebekah them more the travel to go and marry Isaac. When she gets done traveling and they get to the destination she asks the servant who is in the field. She gets told that it is her husband to be. She then quickly covers her face and gets down from the horse and greets him. Then they are wed. The last thing that we are told is that Isaac loves her. We see from the beginning the great respect that rebekah showed her self and her husband before meeting with the tradition of covering her face. We also see from this that Isaac loved her as will. What greater gift can a woman have in a marriage than the true love of her husband? What would you consider to be love of your spouse? How can you show that love back to them? Many times we think of love as just a gift that comes naturally. Sometimes we actually meet or marry that spouse or child or other family member that is difficult to love. I have heard stories from people who actually turned their life around on ...

Sariah Following in Faith

Sariah Following in Faith Sariah follows her husband Lehi into the wilderness taking their family to follow what God has told them to do. She followed and packed with faith the essentials they needed and took each one of their children with. To live a life of unknowing where God was going to guide them to. With a three day travel towards the red sea. Doing the will of your husband being led by God because of his dream that Jerusalem would be destroyed. How many of could just get and leave because of a dream our husband or someone we love has had? I would find it hard to be asked to leave it all behind, but at the same time grateful to have my children surrounded around me. Sariah got up and proceeded in god will and followed in faith gathering everyone together to leave. In my mind it makes me wonder if she had stuff all ready prepared to just up and go in a place like we have camping gear just in case of an emergency? She must be had a lot of trust in her husband to know he was a ...

Rebekah a Priesthood Blessing

A Priesthood Blessing (Rebekah) Let's look at the blessing that Rebekah receives before she leaves her family. We are told in Genesis 24:60(kjv) and they blessed Rebekah, and said into her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them. This reminds me of the guidance we receive when we get a Priesthood Blessing from a worthy member in the church(the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints(LdS)). Just like many of us seek out blessings when we seek for guidance sickness or even a patriarchal blessing. Rebekah shows us the same thing when she was getting ready to leave. How many of us just seek a Priesthood Blessing when sick or prepare for a patriarchal blessing. What other reasons do we seek out blessings? Elder Dallin H Oaks said " Priesthood keys direct women as well as men, and priesthood ordinances and priesthood authority pertain to women as well as men. " Priesthood blessing...

Rebekah in Proceeding to Do God's will

Proceeding to do God's Will (Rebekah) We now see Rebekah taking the servant back to the house. The servant then explains what his errand is and how he prayed and remember Rebekah came out and did as was asked in his prayer to know she was the one that Isaac should marry. Her brother Laban and her father Bethuel say what are they to do than proceed with the Lord's will. The next day we see Laban and her mother trying to convince the servant to stay. He said they needed to be on their way. Her mother then says let it be Rebekah's choice. Rebekahs then chooses to go with. The lesson I see in this part of Rebekah's story is she is willing to go forward and proceed in the will that God has set in front of her. Instead of procrastinating like her brother and mother asked her to do she wanted to go. Tehran's heart was prepared for the task at hand by God that she knew that by going forward she would proceed to help his work move forward. She seemed the will of the ...

Rebekah a Wife For Isaac

Rebekah a Wife For Isaac (A Chosen Wife) As the story begins in genesis chapter twenty four that Abraham send out his eldest servant to find a Wife For Isaac. He told him to go to the land where it was Abraham's country and where his kindred were loving. Giving his servant an oath that he shall find a woman to follow him. When the servant gets to the land he prays of a way to know a tool to guiding him of which woman it he should take back with him to marry Isaac. As he was sitting there Rebekah comes out and as the servant had prayed for she came and filled the pitcher for water. The servant ran and asked for a drink. She lifted down the pitcher and have him drink. She then also drew water for the canals until they were done drinking. The servant wondered if she was the right one and if his prayers were answered took a golden earring and bracelets and placed them on her and asked whose child she was? Rebekahs then offered hehe families place to lodge. Rebekah in this par...

Rebekah

Rebekah  Rebekah what kind of woman was she that she was so loved by her husband Isaac? We can see her as one of a heart of kindness, love, and mother. A matriarch as will in Israel's lineage. We see that she inquired of the lord when there was a problem she also received personal revelation. The Scriptures tell her story and we get to interpret the way we want and  get to utilize the things we want to learn. In my learning of Rebekah i learned she had faith, virtue, believed in god, seeked personal revelation, asked  and received an answer. She also sought out the best for her favorite child. But she loved each of her family members. She also trusted in god to make the decisions she made. Rebekahs a Wife For Isaac Rebekah proceeding in God's will Rebekah Receives a Priesthood Blessing Rebekah Marries Isaac Rebekah Seeks answers Rebekah History Repeats Rebekah a Mothers Guidance Fears of a mother rebekah

Sariah

Sariah Lehi's Wife I have no idea how I would act of I was in Sariah's shoes if my husband said it was time to leave our home because the lord said he was going to destroy the town. Especially reading of each of her trials she went through. The biggest thing that I admire about Sariah is she had faith. Sometimes she doubted just like any mother would sending off her son's to danger to go and get the brass plates. To me she was a strong women to bare witness of what she went through through the writing of her son's eyes. We learn what type of mother, wife, and a human being she was. What blessings and things that Nephi learned about his mother that he wanted others to learn about. The lesson I learn here about her is if my child was to tell my story what would I want for them to say about me? What value can I most impress on my child? What can I possibly show them of my faith in god? Sariah Following Lehi in faith Sariah Murmurs Sariah Comforted by Lehi Sariah ...

Rebekahs Mother

Rabekah's Mother So many women in the scriptures get overlooked. One of them happens to be Rebekahs mother. Her feelings of wanting to spend time with her daughter before she leaves. The gift that the servant of Abraham gives to her. Asking that the servant even respects her daughter's choice and the willingness to ask her daughter to stay longer. As a mother I know I would feel the same way to spend those last little bit of time before my daughter would be married. Even in ancient times it was still hard to see your own child leave and grow up. Rebekahs mother is a prime example of this. She asked for ten days to still spend with Rebekah before she left the hoise. The servant was persisted that they needed to leave soon and that they couldn't wait. She knowing agency was then asking the servant to let her daughter choose whether she wanted to go. The willingness and heartache that has to come to her when her daughter said she would leave with the servant right away. T...

Milcah Mother of Bethuel

Milcah Milcah was married to Abraham's brother Nahor. Milcah was also a mom of eight children. One of the sons happened to be Betheuel who happened to be rebekahs dad. Having all the children she did reminds me of my self. I have nine children. The everyday challenges that she would have gone through to teach them. My thoughts on Milcah is she would ' ve been a patient women. To be able to teach and be an example to each one of her and be able to bring them up to be productive human beings.  Milcah's name means queen which seems fitting as a matriarch in Israel's lineage. As a queen you would be one of counsel. Fitting for a mother of eight. The Lord asks us as mothers to guide and be a role model into them. In her teachings and the way that you can see rebekahs kindness she had to of laid a corner stone in her son's beliefs. How can raising our children have an affect on future generations? What is it that we would want our children, grandchildren, greatgra...

Keturah

Keturah Wife to Abraham After Sarah does we see Abraham has a new wife named Keturah. Many people believe that Keturah is actually the same person as Hagar. With her names being changed just like Abraham and Sarahs. Whatever the situation may be we see that Keturah is with abraham in his old age. She was a woman of virtue. We know from The Scriptures that Keturah took care of Abraham in his old age until his death. We also know that she had six sons who are believed to be the six Arabian tribes( ancient Israelites regarded Arabs to be distant relatives of theirs.) The things we can learn from Keturah is that she was considered a concubine in her marriage. Keturah took care and loved Abraham until the day he died. It would take strength as a mother to know that your children are receiving gifts and that the full inheritance is going to one heir. The bible talks about how Isaac received the inheritance and the concubine children received gifts. What kind of gifts it doesn't s...

Sarah and Hagar

Sarah and Hagar The things we can learn from both these women Makes me wonder what type of relationship both of these women actually had with each other. There are things online that they actually got along good such as when gusts visited Sarah encouraged them to also go and visit Hagar. Both of these women had a strong persona in their belief in god each faith differed. Their experiences differed as will. They both represent different aspects to our lives and to the covenant that God made with us on the earth. The births of Ishmael and Isaac have been used as allegories in time by prophets and those who are Christians that believe in the writings of the bible. Paul in the bible used the allegory of Hagar and Sarah as Hagar being of the Old covenant bore Ishmael and Sarah being of the new covenant bearing isaac. What could that possibly mean to us. When we look at Hagar she was a bondsman given to Abraham to concieve. Her situation came down to desperation in wanting to fulfill...

Hagar Leaving the Family

Hagar is Told to Leave In the next part of Hagars story we are seeing Sarah going to Abraham and asking him to cast Hagar and his son Ishmael out to leave the family structure. All because Ishmael laughed but the meaning behind can be impartial as will. Abraham packs them a bag of bread and water and sends them on their way. A heartbroken mother then place her son underneath a bush unable to see him for of thirst. She then again has an angel appear to her and tells her God has heard the prayers of her son. Telling her that there is a well of water behind the vines.Again the angel gives her revelation that twelve princes will come from ishmael. That he will be at war with almost everybody. When the angel leaves Hagar says "God seest me!" Just like Abraham packs Hagar and Ishmael good and water to live off of God provides for us. God provides a way to survive when we use the teachings he gives us to survive in this life. To live by his laws. He know we make the mistakes but...

Hagar Conceives Ishmael

Hagar Conceives Ishmael Soon after Hagar Becomes Abraham's wife she conceived her son Ishmael. She felt and was seeing the anger or jealousy of sarah. Hagar then suffered at Sarah's hand and runs away. Leading her to a well of water. When an angel appeared during her sobbing and tells her to go back and suffer at her master's hand. She then saying that the lord hearest her prayers. What this part of the story made me think of is how many times do we feel we are suffering at God's hands during our trials? There have been times in my life I have asked why am I being for Salem to go through trial? Or because of my choices in my life I know I have asked why? We in our lives as human beings look at our parents the same way as we look at God as why are you letting me go down this path? Yet in the end we try to lead our children down a path that we pray will help them in their liffe. Just like God does for all is spirit children. Just like the angel tells Hagar to go back...

Hagar to be Wife of Abraham

Hagar to be Wife of Abraham When Sarai sees that her husband desires offspring and she is barren she decided to give Hagar. She tells her husband Abraham to go in into her handmaid. Which he does and married her. How would you feel being a handmaid to go in into your mistresses husband and become his wife? Or would you be able to tell your husband to do that very thing knowing the love you have for him? Whatever way you feel or would react could you be willing to be a pawn in God's hands to bring about offspring?  Do you think contention started off early on between Hagar and sarai because of the marriage? In life we feel that there are choices that we make that we have no control over. Just like I see Hagar here in her situation. She was given away to be another's woman's husbands other wife. We go along in life wanting to make our own hearts desires. We at times feel like some of those choices because we happen to be in the situation we are in become some sort ...

Hagar

Hagar Hagar when studying became one of my favorite woman to study. Just her strength and the way she looked at God in her circumstances. One of the things that I found on the internet was Hagar was believed to be an Egyptian princess. She left her father's house to becomes Sarai ' s handmade because she all ready felt she was a prisoner in her father's house. Another thing that I found interesting is that she wanted to know more of the God Abraham was another reason why she followed and became a handmaid. God taught Hagar in each of her circumstances and with Hagar experiences you don't see her turn her back on God but hope is gained in hers. To me she teaches that you can learn to be a valiant servant of God and learn his ways to follow and that God gives hope back to be seen through our eyes. Hagar Becomes Abraham's Wife Hagar Conceived Ishmael Hagar told to leave the family Sarah and Hagar lessons they teach us

Sarah The test of Faith with Isaac

Sarah The test of Faith with Isaac How many have been put to a test of Faith with our children or even someone we love? We want the best and have been given so much. How would we like to be in Sarah's shoes when your husband comes and says to you " the lord just asked that I should sacrifice our son? "  especially a child that you had waited for and thought would be impossible at an old age to have! It would be such a test of Faith! That test of Faith that God would not let something happen to your son and that he will intervene and save him. A test that that son you had was the promise of nations to come from him. It would be such a test that I would be questioning my husband on the matter. Especially since Cain was cast out when he killed his brother. I would be questioning the fact did my husband talk to his himself and really told to sacrifice our son? Or was it an imposter spirit that was cast out that laid it down saying God wanted this to happen? Whatever it...

Sarah in Letting Hagar Go

Sarah in Letting Hagar Go Sarah being the matriarch of her family comes to the decision of having Hagar and Ishmael leave the family. After the feelings of Ishmael laughing at her. She asks Abraham to send them from the family. Even though Abraham was heartbroken he listened. The story here teaches me us as women make decisions that we feel is best for our family. How many choices heartache and dev skins do we make in our everyday life? We make A lot of decisions what we feel is best for oirself, our children, our spouse, and what we feel can bring us all as a working family a team. The job is not easy on what choices we make. Each of us have different circumstances that the lord knows. With Sarah in asking Hagar and Ishmael to leave i wonder how easy of a decision was it to her? Was she ever heartbroken because she would be been around and enjoyed the company of Ishmael and hagar. Was the mocking so great that she knew if they stayed it would be more detrimental to all involv...

Sarah Fullfills God's Promise

Sarah God's Promise is Fulfilled The fulfillment to Sarah of conceiving a child and giving birth to Isaac comes to pass. She had laughed in her old age and given a child that could suck(breastfeed). She got to know the joy and pain of her own sufferings. The promise that God gave to Abraham and Sarah that she would have a child of her own became fullfilled. The impossible came to be the possible. Because nothing in God's eyes is impossible. How would you feel after all the years of suffering and finally in old age you get what God promised you? Would you be satisfied or ask why did you hold out so long? What advice a teaching would you be able to provide to another because of the lessons learned? Could you tell others that God does remember his promises and make what we fill impossible possible? Just to be in Sarah's footsteps for a minute my thoughts that cross my mind how would I react? To me she seems so real like many of us would act through all the steps and eve...

Sarah in Abimelech's Court

Sarah in Abimelech's Court We find Sarah and Abraham in a situation that they were in before. Telling Abimelech and his household they are brother and sister. This time she is older and thinking about it she mustve  aged well. We also find a repetitive behavior. This time we see Sarah taken by Abimelech because he was interested in her. Especially since he was told that she was Abraham's sister. Then the lord comes to abimelech and tells him he will be destroyed because he wants to be with another man's wife. Again we see the lord intervening in Sarah's life to  save her from sin and another from sin.  How many times in our life do we have an intervention by God because of the choices we make?  How many does it feel like we are repeating ourselves in the same action? What does God want us to learn from the repeativeness; or what lesson are we not learning from it?  Here we see Sarah returned to abraham. This time we see Abraham praying for Abimelech and h...

Sarah the Entertainment of Holy Men

Sarah the Entertainment of Holy Men How would it be to be told to prepare for meal for holy men at your door? Then to be told being in old age being barren that you will carry a child? What lessons can we learn from Sarah in this situation? Abraham sees that there are holy men coming towards his tent. Calling out to Sarah his wife he asks her to make meal for them. In this circumstance we see that she is a host to these holy men. We also see her willingness to serve others. How can we entertain those who come to our house in holiness to the lord? Can we treat them as though they deserve the best as though the lord was with them. As she is making meal for the holy men we get to read that they ask where Sarah his wife is at to abraham? Abraham replies she is in the tent. With an ear length of hearing what is being said they tell Abraham that she will conceive and bare a son. As she hears these words she laughs to herself and thinks she is beyond the age of childbearing and that it...

Sarai to Sarah the name change

Sarai to Sarah  What is in a name? By all names what can we learn about Sarai to her name change sarah? How can this name change be established into God's plan and covenants that were made with abram? So many questions taught come across my mind. The situation reminds of when I'm church we give babies a  name and a blessing that they will be known upon in this earth. The name of the world that our earthly parents call us by. Sarai was named by her parents. Under her name she governed her household the way that she felt for as the matriarch. Giving of her handmade to her husband in her way of helping the promise from God be fulfilled. Her name being one of the world willingness of doing our own will. A choice inside our selves to live and choose our agency. We see when God changes Sarai s name to Sarah he also gives her a blessing. What can began to think what is this significance to her name change? Parents name is of the world. Which we a recognized daily on. God chang...

Sarah Losing Faith in God's Promise

Sarah Losing Faith in God's Promise The story of Sarah to me takes an interesting turn. God has talked to Abram and reiterated his covenant that his offspring will be spread among the nations. They would be numbered so great like the stars in the heaven. We learn in the scriptures that Sarah is barren. So we know she was unable to have children. Afraid that Abraham would never be able to fulfill God's promises through her. The felt that the possibility through her was impossibleimpossible. She then decided to give Hagar ( her handmaid) to Abram to marry and bare children. My title might seem out of the ordinary to Sarah, but the lesson I learn here from her was valuable to me. The first thing is a lot of us are taught as children in our parents home about covenants. We are also taught about God's promises and when we have faith in him he holds up to his end of the bargain he made. One of my seminary teachers taught me when we decide to turn from God some of the blessings...

Sarah land of Egypt 1st time

Sarai (Sarah) in the Land of Egypt As the story goes of Abram and Sarah were about to enter Egypt because of famine in the land. Before they were to enter Abram heard the voice of the Lord day unto him" behold, sarai, they wife, is a very fair woman to look upon; Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see her, they will say-She is his wife; and they will kill yoi, but they will save her alive; Therefore see that he do on this wise: Let her say to the Egyptians, she is that sister, and th soul shall live. And it came to pass that I, Abraham told Sarai, my wife, all that the Lord said into me- therefore say into them, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for the sake, and my soul shall live because of thee. " Abraham 2:22-25 Abraham being worried about his wife and himself being killed asked Sarah to say she was his sister to save his life. The pharoah ended up giving  Sarah everything. The Lord then plagued pharoah's h...

Sarah (Sarai)

Sarah (Sarai) Sarah being the mother of all the ancestors of Israel became an interesting character to me. She showed herself in so many different ways that she was pure human and used her free agency. Her story with her husband, the pharoah, Hagar, her step-son Ishmael, her husband taking their only son to sacrifice him; with all the things that she went through her personal trials and s her personal strengths. When studying her in each of her stories you can see how she would go was not a super hero but the feelings she had as a real human being going through life trying to live and do right into the teachings of god. She just became more than just a story to me she became real. She along with her husband wanted God's promises and gained a learning of life's lessons. Let's dig deeper into her and her stories and begin to see how she grew and possessed human traits we all possess. Sarah Land of Egypt 1st time sarah-losing-faith-in-gods-promise Sarah to Sarah the...

Daughters of Lot left behind

Daughters of Lot that Husbands Mocked How many of us get left out of a family function because of our spouses or child, because another family member has a hard time? Or everyone else in the family knows of things going on and no one tells the person in the family what is being said and then they find out years later because they ask questions wondering why the rest of the family acts different? So many things that can happen with in the family that we can all assume the worst and not know exactly what is going on. Satan destroys families by getting into the core of it. Look at the example that the daughters Lot had happen to them because of their husbands. Here we have the holy men tell Lot to gather his family to leave Sodom. He goes and tells his daughters husbands "The Lord wants me to gather my family. We need to leave the city. It's going to be destroyed." How much can the effects of someone in your life play a part in decisions? We find out after the husban...

Lot's Scheming Daughters

Lot's Scheming Daughters What can we learn from these two scheming daughters of Lot? What choices did they actually have? Why do you think they actually had to scheme their father and be with him? What reason do you think father felt he had to bargain his daughters at the door for? Let's start with Lot in Sodom hosting the holy men at his house. In Genesis 19:8 Lot tells the men seeking out the holy men, "behold i have two daughters which have not known man, let me, I pray you bring them out into you, and so he to them as good in your eyes; only into these men do nothing."
