Rebekah a Wife For Isaac
(A Chosen Wife)
As the story begins in genesis chapter twenty four that Abraham send out his eldest servant to find a Wife For Isaac. He told him to go to the land where it was Abraham's country and where his kindred were loving. Giving his servant an oath that he shall find a woman to follow him. When the servant gets to the land he prays of a way to know a tool to guiding him of which woman it he should take back with him to marry Isaac. As he was sitting there Rebekah comes out and as the servant had prayed for she came and filled the pitcher for water. The servant ran and asked for a drink. She lifted down the pitcher and have him drink. She then also drew water for the canals until they were done drinking. The servant wondered if she was the right one and if his prayers were answered took a golden earring and bracelets and placed them on her and asked whose child she was? Rebekahs then offered hehe families place to lodge.
Rebekah in this part of her story gives a great deal of what type of person she is. She showed kindness to a stranger, giving a service of water to the servant and his camels, and she offered a place to stay. By being the type of person she was she became the chosen wife to Isaac.
She gives a couple of example and teaches a some lessons here for each of us. The first one that I'm going to point out is her personality. She treated him kindness and showed the stranger a God like love that we can show to others around us. Simple in nature by her actions. How does your personality reflect on a god-like love to others? Is there something you feel like you can improve on?
Another example she showed was that she showed service to a complete stranger. She saw a need she acted upon it. She didn't even question the man that was asking her. The service she gave to the man was a simple one but it was also a answer to a prayer of what the man was looking for. How many times in our life do we come across another person who might just need something so simple that we by pass and not help?Maybe that simple thing could be his helping out groceries up on the counter for them.
The other thing that crossed my mind is she became a chosen wife. The wife to Isaac to be the mother of nations from her. I remember in young women's one of the lessons we talked about was being what you would want in your spouse. That if we would take a list and put those qualities that we want in our future spouse we should develop on them in ourself. then making a list of how we see those qualities in ourself and either work on them as will.I think Rebekahs characteristics shows what she developed those qualities in herself to be chosen. Even being married there might be qualities that we feel like we have compromised and want to go back to of our younger days that we can strive on. We as daughters who believe in God can become chosen individuals to be worthy of marrying someone who will love us because of who we are and will help us to remember those traits that are loved. God has chosen each one of us single or married like Rebekah to bring forth our best qualities. He chose her to be the mother of nations because of the good works she had shown. He chose her because of her unique qualities that she can give to others because of her personality. How can we work on being a chosen spouse to either our future husband or our now husband that you feel God would like for you to do? How can we counsel with the lord like the servant did in finding what the lord wants us to find or let him know what we are looking for? God wants us to counsel with him and he will lead the way we just need to be willing to except the answer. She also teaches that when we are in the right place at the right time in our life blessings do come. That the lord does provide us the right things in our life to do his will and be chosen for his work.
