Sariah Murmurs
Sariah here in the Book of Mormon gets mad at her husband for sending her boys off to gather their records. Scared for her son's lives. We can look at it from the point of view was she trying to stop what Lehi was being told or from a mother's point of view who sends her son's off scared? What point do you take it as?
I think I'm life no matter the age of our children we are scared to send them off to grow. Mothers we rationalize everything. Here in this moment and time period i see a woman who is scared for the safety of her son's and gets so upset that she murmurs against her husband. The fact that she does what any of us would do we want to be the mama bear and protect them from any type of danger. Sariah love her son's and knowing the danger of the mission that the lord wants her son's to do she still inside is asking that question all of us mothers do why? Why would you risk my child's life to complete the work that needs to be done? Upset and challenging nerve racking and complaining against her husband Sariah concern is her boys safety. She's a mom! who loves her boys! Who has to be asking and so mad scared to death that they might not return. who knows what that length of time might have been we see here a women concerned and mad at her husband. A lose of faith for that time that God would help them make the journey safely back home. Unknowing how they would get through to see her son's again. The name near came out on her husband. Fighting with him complaining to him daily because they weren't back.
How many of us would act like Sariah? Not knowing the whole mission and purpose would let that mama bear out? I know myself I would have a nervous break down worried everyday until I could see them again. When my son was in boot camp it was hard to not actually here everyday or to see him. I know there was never a day that went by that I prayed for him to make through asking God daily if this is where my son is meant to be let him make it through the challenge that was chosen. I can see Sariah doing exactly that even though she would murmur against her husband her heart and soul was with those sons of her doing God's work. A nervous mom who was concerned for the safety.
I see myself in that same situation just asking why would you send them off to the danger zone. Does she falter in her faith? Or was it just because she was so convinced over her sons? Did she no want the work to continue or just mama bear getting in the way? How many times do we know that the growth of our child is sometimes just letting go to let them walk on their own or someone we care about in our life just to let go and let them find and trust in god? Even though we might murmur like Sariah we still set back and pray for them make it through that trial so they can finish the mission God needs them for at that moment. As a momma near we see she just wants to protect them even if she murmurs her heart is doing what is as women do naturally or as human beings do we fear the unknown of knowing and falter at times in our faith that what the lord needs for us can be hard to deal with. Sending those out to help accomplish the things we need to keep learning of him and from those that have gone before. He knew Sariah would be upset but he also knew she would grow from it and be able to except the next things he would ask her son's to do. Even to go get Ishmael family. He used this as a tool to help her grow that they her son's could grow as will to be able to rely on him the lord. By seeking out ways to accomplish the things he asked to be done. A test of Faith we go through and we can learn from it even if we murmur as Sariah did. She was over hours by her son's return. Just like we can do when we see those we love. That murmuring becomes such a happy moment.
I wonder why Nephi decided to send his mother's weak moment? Was it to show that we all have human tendencies to be weak especially when we love so much and want to protect those we love? Whatever it may be he wanted us to know his mother had real feelings about the situation at hand.
