The Wife of Ishmael ( Book of Mormon)
1 Nephi 7:6 And it came to pass that as we journeyed in the wilderness, behold Laman and Lemuel, and the two daughters of Ishmael, and the two sons of Ishmael and there families, did rebel against us,yea, against me Nephi,and sam, and their father, Ishmael, and his wife, his three other daughters.
1 Nephi 7:19 And it came to pass that they were angry with me again, and sought to lay hands upon me; but behold one of the daughters of Ishmael, yea and also her mother and one of the sons of Ishmael, did plea with my brethern, in so much that they did soften their hearts and they did cease striving to take away my life.
We see here with Ishmael's wife that she had faith to follow her husband and father her family up to go into the wilderness. She trusted the word of a prophet to leave the inheritance of her family behind. She must have know when the word of God was speaking for her family. The other thing we do know for sure about her was she was a mother of five daughters and two sons and was also a grandmother. We know from these two scriptures that she had children that rebelled and children that followed them and god. We see that she is a peacemaker in trying to stop harm on another human being. She knew the right words to say to soften the hearts of Nephi's brothers from killing him.
As mothers it seems like we play the biggest role in our children's lives but also the people that happen to be a part of their lives. We know how to calm situations when it comes down to another but struggle to get out own feeding the frustration s that come with it. Ishmael 's wife plays a role in saving Nephi's life. If your a mother have you ever noticed it seems like you have the right words to say to your child's friend that might be having a problem? I've noticed with my own i can say something to one of their friends to show a motherly comfort. But question how am I going to go about my own child problem? We are showing those around us love that another human being can have when we step in and let them know that their life has worth. We show missionary work and Christ like attributes to those that need is at times that we don't understand how we are playing a part.
I know a couple of years ago my sister ran into someone I was good friends with as a child. She appreciated how my parents showed her love and her family love by being as she said a second family in their families time of need. Ishmael's wife impacted Nephi that he shared a part in his life that she helped him out in a tough situation. How can we be an impact on our children's friends lives? What things do you think have impacted those you have meet?
