The Sister Rivalry Rachel and Leah
Here we have a sibling rivalry with two sisters Rachel and Leah. As the bible says God seen that Rachel was more favorable over Leah. so he closed Rachel's womb and opened Leah to childbearing. As time went on Rachel told Jacob to give her a child or she would die, and he answered its not my choice but gods. Contention now begins to grow between the two sister s. Rachel gives her handmaid Bilhah to Jacob to bare her a child. the handmaid gives birth and then her sister does the same thing with zilpah. Zilpah them bares a child. Leah pronounces her blessings. Each one of the handmaid baring two children.
When Leah first bore her son Rueben she looked at it as God seen her afflictions. Do you ever have that moment when you feel that God has seen your afflictions in your life? Or do you see as he hasn't been there. Rachel kept having children and she kept feel I g like her blessings were being built on to get her through her circumstances. She praised God in all he has given her. Do we see the blessings we have and praise God for them? Or do you look at it as I'm still unloved why me situation? I'm life I think it a our outlook on life and how we face our trials that helps us know exactly what part God has helped us get through a situation. Leah saw her children as blessings to help her through her feeling of being unloved by jocob. A way to show love to another human being was to have her children. I know I'm situations of being out there some of us women who feel like problems in our relationship we feel like if we have a child from them they will love us even more. Does that usually happen or does things get worse because then there is the feeling I'm trapped and resentment hit because we had our of wedlock or a child to try to save the marriage. We have a choice and I assume Leah loved her children despite the affliction of feeling unloved.
As we go along we say Rachel getting envious of her sister. She even went up to Jacob and told him to give her children. In return he tells her it wasn't him withholding it was god. I'm return giving her handmaid now to Jacob to bare her a child. When that child came she named it Can because she felt God hath judged her. Is there a time even though we are doing what we feel in our heart right that we are being judged wrong? We sit and defend the situation the belief you have until you feel blue in the face. The next baby that her handmaid had was given the name nephatali. Rachel them declared because of the great wrestling with her sister and she was prevailing. Is there a situation in your life that you feel like you prevailed and you were not the victim no more you made it through because you are a survivor? Anything can come now because you survived. You overcame that trial and you are being seen now as a hero?
Now Leah sees what just happened with Rachel's handmaid and gives Jacob her handmaid. The first son born to her handmaid is named Had and Rachel declares that a troop is cometh. Now when we see that someone is fighting back or getting attention do you ever get up and want to send in the troops for revenge? Because of our own feelings of wanting it all or to be in top we want the glory so we fight back. We fight the fight that doesn't need the fight no more. then the next son is born to leash handmaid being named Asher Leah them declared the daughters will call her blessed.
Rachel along the way asks for Leah sons mandrakes. Which was believed to help to concieve. Rachel tells her she will trade her bed for the mainframes with Jacob and Leah agrees to it. Now Leah still in the sibling rivalry bares another son declaring God hath given her her hire. Being traded for the bed it seems appropriate in the trade. She was given. Then comes her sixth son Zebulon this time declaring that now her husband will dwell with her because of the speedy of the sons she was given. Jacob still loved Rachel more. Is it possible in life when we try so hard to be on top we still have the feelings that we are lost and unseen? That no one cares until we get more of a dowery or something that another would want that we feel like they will like us more and want to be around us more. Could in Leah's situation Jacob did have love for her but the guilt of tricking him and knowing that she played apart in the marriage that she had to try to do more to get his love? She knew she wasn't the one his heart was set on and which made the rivalry worse because she felt she had to fight for his heart and love? Unlike Rachel who Jacob all ready loves showing he would do anything with commitment to have her. Where Leah she was given in place to b because she wasn't married yet. I'm life is there something that plays a guilt on you because you felt you went about the wrong way so you feel you always have to fight for that spot to keep ahead of another. Instead of seeing the others pain we keep the fight going? How many times in life do we want more so we feel like the trickery was in the best interest of all involved? Yet we continue to fight for the love of spot in a job etc. Because in our heart we have that guilt? We see that Leah eventually even has a daughter that she named Dinah.
Their family situation didn't make life easy but they do teach lessons that we can take from it. We can find our place in the family. We can learn that even though we feel less loved that we are still loved in different ways. That each one of us in the family or relationship have different circumstances and we could learn how to comfort another. Although our situation may not seem to be ideal great blessings may come through our obedience and faith in god.
As we see in the end of the rivalry Rachel is remembered and bares her son Joseph. Now she feels God finally remembers her. do you ever feel like now I am remembered? So you look at this blessing differently wanting to protect it with all you got because now you cherish the blessing through the fight of getting through your trial. You can now relax and say I am blessed. No matter our circumstances we all face adversity differently. We expect things to happen differently than what they do and be blessed sooner than later rather than learn from our situation early. And as we learn to trust in the Lord and align our hearts with his the blessings seem to pour out.
