Handmaidens Zilpah and Bilhah
We have the handmaidens Zilpah and Bilhah. Leah was given the handmaidens Zilpah and Rachel was given the handmaid Bilhah. They were given to wait on their mistresses. Mad me think how are we given by God to be a handmaid to others that might need our help in life. Maybe in a situation that is an emergency or just seeing a fight becoming a mediator what ever it might be God uses us to be a handmaid in his hands to bring about his work. As Rachel and Leah show us with their sibling rivalry having their handmaid marry Jacob and bare him children. Have you ever thought about the way God has used you to touch another person's life? Maybe you find out you could be an answer to their prayers. We never really know whose life we touch by being there for another. God moves us to act and it is up to us on how we react to the situation.
The handmaid might seem insignificant to the story but God uses them to teach us their willingness to be used as a pawn to bring about his work. Becoming Mothers in Israel to the sons they bore who them became part of the twelve tribes.
When you think of a handmaid what exactly comes to your mind? To me I think of a handmaid as a slave, servant to another. I'm the Median-Webster dictionary it describes a handmaid as a of course a noun and the definition 1: a personal maid or female servant. 2:something whose essential function is to serve or to assist. In the bible the meaning and term of a handmaid is applied to a servant who serves her mistress. When I think about the biblical term I think about how can we serve our fellow sisters as handmaid in God's gospel? How can I be an unlikely help to another To bring about his work and show the many mistresses in our sisterhood of women God's love for them?
Even though Zilpah and Bilhah might have been used as pawns with each of the sisters they were also used to help bring about God's will in serving another women to help bring about his people that he talks about in the bible. They became a part of history plus they became a part of a family. They have in to what the needs of their mistresses and fulfilled promises made that generations would come from Jacobs offspring such as his father Abraham. They were used to bring about the unlikely blessings for generations. They teach me that we all can be made aasn unlikely servant in God's purposes to bring about his will and blessings to those for the time he needs us to be there to generations to come.
