Laman's Daughters Receive a blessing
2 Nephi 4:3-7 Wherefore, after my father had made an end of speaking concerning the prophecies of Joseph, he called the children of Laman, his sons, and his daughters and said unto them. Behold my sons, and my daughters of my first born, I would that in as much as he shall keep the commandments ye shall prosper in the land, and in as much as he shall not keep the commandments he shall be cutoff from my presence. But behold, my son's and my daughters I cannot go down to my grave save i should leave a blessing you for behold I know ye are brought up in the way he should go us will not depart from it. Wherefore if ye are cursed, behold, I leave a blessing upon you, that the cursing !at be taken from you and be answered upon the heads of your parents.
2 Nephi 4:7 Wherefore because of my blessing the Lord God will not suffer that thee shall perish wherefore he will be merciful into you and into your sees forever.
Lehi takes the family of Laman who is his eldest son. Talks to them and leaves upon their heads a blessing. The things he lets Lamans children know go not just for his son's but for his daughters to hear as will. He lets them know that as long as they keep God's commandments that they will prosper in the land that they have been brought to. He even let's them know that they have been taught the ways of the lord. But if the choose and happen to be cut off and be cursed there is a way to return and the curse can be taken from them. Whatever choices that brought them to the curse them will lie upon the parents that brought it upon them and taught them the ways of evilness. He even gives them word of comfort that God won't let them perish on the land but will be merciful and sees them there forever. Yet Lehi does inform them that if they choose not to follow they can be cut off from God's presence.
What gets me here with Lehi talking to all of them is he brings up that they were brought up in knowing which way to follow and that they would not depart from the teachings. So their mothers and fathers taught them. During there travels in the wilderness they taught them on the sea. Even if rebellion has come about they were still taught the ways of the lord. I guess it made me think about myself in my life. I was taught the gospel i still strayed at one time but when it comes to my children the values i learned growing up i still teach them and have taught them to my children no matter where I was at in life.Being instilled in each one of them.
Lehi let's these daughters know if they happen to depart with their brethren a curse can come upon their heads but God will be merciful and provide that way back to them. One of the passages in the book of Mormon hit me that the prophets are telling the Nephites that the Lamanites are more righteous than they are with marriage because they are living and only taking upon them one wife. Where the Nephites took more than one. Showing to me they were taught the ways of marriage and carried it on within their lives. Many others where taught and carried on when you start to look at the native American history and beliefs and relate them to teachings of the bible and book of Mormon they carried on what was taught and keep teaching the beliefs. Never really forgotten just whether the choice to live them. God even have them a way out from the curse and let them know when they come back to him the curse would be lifted and that he is a merciful god.
For the Daughters to be mentioned shows to me that they looked at them as an equal to the blessings that God offers. That there inheritance to the blessing are theirs to achieve as much as the mens. Showing me that they even play an important part of teaching the doctrines that they were taught. It also shows to me that a curse can fall among any one that God provides away for mercy for each one of his children. Is females as will. It also shows me blessings are meant for all of us to enjoy. God speaks to us women as much as the men and wants us to inherit whatever blessings he has to offer us. We are not alone we are equal in being able to have an inheritance in God's kingdom. He wants us to feel the importance of our role in bringing about his kingdom and to teach our children. Because as Lehi say if a curse comes upon the heads it will be on the parents. We are taught and we can share those values with each one of our children.
