Leah, Rachel, and Handmaids meet Esau

In the land of Schehem Jacob's brother comes and meets up with Jacob and his family. Still fearful of his brother he lines his family up in a certain order. The first ones at the forefront at Zilpah and Bilhah with their children. Next he put Leah with her children. Then at the end by him he put Rachel and her son. The significance of the order of view of who he felt of most importance. Jacob being afraid of what might come when he meets his brother places them according to his priorities. How would you feel if you placed in line to the significance of the way you are valued? Or have you ever been placed in that order? Or even have you done that to others? We usually treat another according to the way that we care for them. Sometimes it looks even like favoritism to another who really wants or trying to find favor with us.This takes me to wonder how do we receive favor in God's eyes? Isaiah 66:2 says, " For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, t...

Nephi's Sisters

2 Nephi 5:5-6 And it came to pass that the Lord did warn me that I, Nephi, should depart from them and flew into the wilderness, and all those who would go with me. Wherefore it came to pass that I, Nephi, did take my family, and also Zoram and his family, and Sam, my Elder brother and his family and Jacob, and Joseph my younger brethren, and also my sisters, and all those who would go with me. And all those who went with me believed in the warnings and the revelations of god, entrepreneur did hearken unto my words. And we did take our tents and whatsoever things were possible for us, and did journey in the wilderness for space of many days. Even though Nephi's sisters are mentioned in such a small part. Nephi gives a glimpse of what they believed in because of all the people that followed him did so in faith. We can learn they were willing to leave behind their other family members. They believed in god and that God gave warnings to them. They believed that Nephi was a speaker o...

Mary Goes to Her Cousin Elizabeth's

Mary after being told of her cousin Elizabeth's pregnancy from the angel travels to go visit her. I'm arrival Elizabeth feels her baby leap within. Bearing a witness to Mary of her divine mission of the child Mary was carrying telling her , "blessed art thou among women."  Must have brought some words of comfort to Mary and a confirmation that what was told her by the angel Gabriel was more than truth. Mary never told her cousin about being pregnant. The only way to really know would be through the Holy Ghost testifying it unto her through personal revelation. Mary stayed with her cousin for three months. This frightful turn of events to find comfort from her cousins word must've helped Mary to continue in faith and understanding of the work she was about to do to give birth and raise God's son. She must have gained a feeling of peace as she saw that the words of the angel were true seeing her cousin pregnant in her old age as will. She gained a knowledge in ...

Leah's Trade for a Night with Jacob

Leah's son Rueben growing old enough to wonder found some Mandrakes. Mainframes our believed to help along being able to have children. Rachel seeing that Rueben had the Mandrakes asks her sister for them in trade of a night with Jacob. Showing us how Rachel was still able to persuade her husband to do her will. Showing us that Leah was still thought less of her husband and agreed to the situation to get time with him. I'm a way we see Leah response to Rachel saying, " Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? And would eat thou take away my son's mandrakes also? " The bitterness and still feeling unloved by her husband. Yes she was the first wife but Rachel still had his love. Seemingly hurt by the affection and love that Rachel still received. By the law of the land she was the head of the house and with the sons she has all ready neared she felt Rachel was still out of place and that Jacob still should be more by her side than her sister. You can s...

Jacob Takes His Wives and Leaves

After Jacob talks to his wives he steals away in the night with them leaving Laban's house. As the story goes on we also find out that Rachel steals her father's idols. And when her father comes and asks Jacob why he left with his daughters stealing them in the night he also asks about the Idols Rachel had stolen Jacob said who ever took the Idols will be cursed to die. Searching the tents Rachel hides the Idols in the camels packs and sits upon them. When asked she tells her father she couldn't move because the womanly was upon her. Jacob finds out and they bury the treasure in the wilderness. While traveling Rachel gives birth to Benjamin and does during childbirth. What lessons can we learn here from the wives of Jacob? They were willing to leave their father's house and cleave to their husband. They show support to listen to the word of Jacob to leave back to the place he came from. They also learned to work together. There's a willingness of being able to stok...

Lemuel's Daughters Blessing

2 Nephi 4:8-9 And it came to pass that after my father made an end of speaking to the sons and daughters of Laman, he caused the sons and daughters of Lemuel to be brought before him. And he spake into them saying: Behold my sons and daughters, who are the sons and daughters of my second son, behold I leave unto you the same blessing which I left into the sons and daughters of Laman: wherefore thou shalt not utterly be destroyed, but in the end they seed shall be blessed. I find that it is interesting that Lehi took first Laman's family and then Lemuel's family and counseled them in family counsel but each to the needs that needed to be heard. We learn from the blessing to Lemuel's Daughters and sons they had the same blessing as Lamans. The thing that Nephi brings out about this families blessing is that they were blessed that they shall not be destroyed, but in the end they seed shall be blessed. These daughters along with their brothers were given a comforting word by ...

Rachel and Leah Ask About Inheritance

I'm this part of the story we learn that Jacob is told by the Lord to go back to Canaan. He then calls for his wives Rachel and Leah and asks them to leave with him. Telling them that he has seen their father's countenance.Rachel and Leah ask Jacob " Is there yet any portion of inheritance for us? " They told Jacob they were sold and if God said to go to do it. I find in a society were it looks like the first born make child has a certain inheritance that these two sisters are asking if there is an inheritance for them. They felt they were sold for the wrong reasons from their father. Yet if God wanted them to leave they were willing to do God's will. I find it interesting because I'm the scriptures it talks about inheritance to the kingdom of god. Which as Alma 41:4 those raised to endless happiness inherit kingdom of god, those raised to endless misery inherit the kingdom of the devil. And I'm Moses 6:57 says men must repent or they cannot inherit kingd...

Laman's Daughters Receive a blessing

2 Nephi 4:3-7  Wherefore, after my father had made an end of speaking concerning the prophecies of Joseph, he called the children of Laman, his sons, and his daughters  and said unto them. Behold my sons, and my daughters of my first born, I would that in as much as he shall keep the commandments ye shall prosper in the land, and in as much as he shall not keep the commandments he shall be cutoff from my presence. But behold, my son's and my daughters  I cannot go down to my grave save i should leave a blessing you for behold I know ye are brought up in the way he should go us will not depart from it. Wherefore if ye are cursed, behold, I leave a blessing upon you, that the cursing !at be taken from you and be answered upon the heads of your parents. 2 Nephi 4:7 Wherefore because of my blessing the Lord God will not suffer that thee shall perish wherefore he will be merciful into you and into your sees forever. Lehi takes the family of Laman who is his eldest son. Talk...

The Announcement to Mary

I feel that the biggest part of Mary's story is the anounciation that she was carrying the Christ  child. When the angel Gabriel came to her he announced unto her that she was called to serve and it was time for her to take her place is what my thoughts are on the announcement. As Luke 1:28-31(king James version) and the angel came to her and said, hail, thou art highly favoured, the lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said into her, fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with god. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in the womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. Luke 1: 34- 38(king James version) Then Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, the holy ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that ...

The Sister Rivalry Rachel and Leah

Here we have a sibling rivalry with two sisters Rachel and Leah. As the bible says God seen that Rachel was more favorable over Leah. so he closed Rachel's womb and opened Leah to childbearing. As time went on Rachel told Jacob to give her a child or she would die, and he answered its not my choice but gods. Contention now begins to grow  between the two sister s. Rachel gives her handmaid Bilhah to Jacob to bare her a child. the handmaid gives birth and then her sister does the same thing with zilpah. Zilpah them bares a child. Leah pronounces her blessings. Each one of the handmaid baring two children. When Leah first bore her son Rueben she looked at it as God seen her afflictions. Do you ever have that moment when you feel that God has seen your afflictions in your life? Or do you see as he hasn't been there. Rachel kept having children and she kept feel I g like her blessings were being built on to get her through her circumstances. She praised God in all he has given he...

All the Women Traveling with Lehi

Image
1 Nephi 17:1-2 And it came to pass that we did again take our journey in the wilderness; and we did travel nearly eastward from that time forth. And we did travel and wade through much affliction in the wilderness; and our women did bear children in the wilderness. And so great were the blessings of the lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and we're strong, yeah, even like into the men; and they began to bear their journeying without murmuring. 1 Nephi 17: 20 And thou art like into our father, led away by the foolish imaginations of his heart; yeah, he hath led us out of the land of Jerusalem, and we have wandered in the wilderness for these many years; and our women have toiled, being big with child; and they have borne children in the wilderness and suffered all things, save it were death; and it would have been better that they died before they came out of Jerusalem than to have suffered thes...

Handmaidens Zilpah and Bilhah

We have the handmaidens Zilpah and Bilhah. Leah was given the handmaidens Zilpah and Rachel was given the handmaid Bilhah. They were given to wait on their mistresses. Mad me think how are we given by God to be a handmaid to others that might need our help in life. Maybe in a situation that is an emergency or just seeing a fight becoming a mediator what ever it might be God uses us to be a handmaid in his hands to bring about his work. As Rachel and Leah show us with their sibling rivalry having their handmaid marry Jacob and bare him children. Have you ever thought about the way God has used you to touch another person's life? Maybe you find out you could be an answer to their prayers. We never really know whose life we touch by being there for another. God moves us to act and it is up to us on how we react to the situation. The handmaid might seem insignificant to the story but God uses them to teach us their willingness to be used as a pawn to bring about his work. Becoming Mot...

A Miracle of a Priesthood Blessing

I'm April of 2017 I found myself in the emergency room. So week so tired and having a hard time breathing. My oldest son taking me over. The left side did my face felt tingly after I woke up. I was scared and knew I had to go. My coughing was congested and essay breathing. They hook me up to everything to take my vitals. What got the doctors straight off the back was my heart rate was high. Higher than what it should be. I can hear the doctor saying " we have a woman no chest pain but heart rate high" doing everything that they could to try to figure out what was going on. I was weak i was tired I was having a hard time. The next thing s that came to pass is more than a miracle to me. I told my son it's my heart I know it is its my heart I know something is wrong more than I can explain. The nurse comes even to help gives me a breathing treatment of albuterol. Something inside me told me don t do it as long as they say it will kill you. I started the treatment to op...

Nephi's Wife

1 Nephi 18:19 And Jacob and Joseph also being younh, having need of much nourishment, we're grieved because of the afflictions of their mother; and also my wife with tears and prayers, and also my children, did not soften the hearts of my brethren that they would loose me. We know that she happened to be one of the daughters of Ishmael that Nephi chose to marry. I like to believe that it is possible he chose the daughter that helped defend him against his brothers with her mom when they tried to kill him. When you start to look at her for character analysis we realize she went through a lot with her family being in the wilderness and even defending her husband and trying to protect her children. Her character reminds me of someone who is strong minded, spiritually and mentally. She wouldve had to go strong in heart and relied on god for the trials that she did. She went through pain and suffering with her family and she comforted them. Watching the rivalry with her husband sibli...

The Wife of Ishmael ( Book of Mormon)

1 Nephi 7:6 And it came to pass that as we journeyed in the wilderness, behold Laman and Lemuel, and the two daughters of Ishmael, and the two sons of Ishmael and there families, did rebel against us,yea, against me Nephi, and sam, and their father, Ishmael, and his wife,  his three other daughters. 1 Nephi 7:19 And it came to pass that they were angry with me again, and sought to lay hands upon me; but behold one of the daughters of Ishmael, yea and also her mother and one of the sons of Ishmael, did plea with my brethern, in so much that they did soften their hearts and they did cease striving to take away my life. We see here with Ishmael's wife that she had faith to follow her husband and father her family up to go into the wilderness. She trusted the word of a prophet to leave the inheritance of her family behind. She must have know when the word of God was speaking for her family. The other thing we do know for sure about her was she was a mother of  five daughter...

Mary the Mother of Jesus

Mary the Mother of Jesus who is she and What significance she played on the saviors life and all our lives for generations. She has been described as a choice woman above all others to carry the task at hand. To be accepting to go through the birth and trials after an angel appeared to her. There are so many lessons that can be learned from her. She can stand as a witness of the lord. How heartbreaking it would be to watch your son die  before you for no reason at all but that the world there to try him as though he was a criminal. Even though the scriptures prophesied of your son coming to you one day and the things he would do for all of us. Just to know you help him from the time of his birth seen the miracles the heartache that people have to him to watch his death in front of you.  You conceived him by God through the holy ghost to fulfill the promises he promised the world. Of having a way to help us all back to him. Wondering why you were forsaken but scriptures tell u...

Leah-The Trickery Wife

You have Jacob after working for seven years for Rachel go to get his bride. They have a party for the celebration and in the morning he finds out he married her sister Leah. Leah is described as doe eyed to look at. Told that it is custom that the oldest had to be married first. Accepting the fait of what just happened he even asked to work another seven years for rachel. There were other plans for Leah and Jacob. Things didn't go as planned on the marriage. Sometime in life it seems that we make plans and then the unexpected happens and the plans go another way. God's plans in our life may come as a surprise of the unexpected. It's the way that we turn and react to the situation. Leah here was used as a pawn by her father to have her married off first. She became the trickery bride. Jacob them turned around and accepted that he married her and decided he would make a life with her but he still wanted the woman he feel in love with. For Leah to decide to go along with th...

Rachel -The wife that Jacob worked for

In the Old Testament we find that Jacob has been sent by his mother to go find a wife in the land she was from. He happened upon Labans daughter Rachel in the fields working keeping of her father's sheep. He feel in love with her on first sight.  He exclaims to Rachel that he is her father's sister's son. Rachel to Jacob was beautiful and he favored her above anything. Jacob loved Rachel that he told her father Laban that he would work seven years for her. After working for her hand in marriage he asked her father. Then being tricked to marry her sister he again was still willing to work again another seven years for her. Eventually he did marry her a few days later. Yet he fulfilled his word and still worked off the seven years he said he would for her hand in marriage. Jacob was so I'm love with Rachel he was willing to wait for her but he worked for her. He worked to be able to take care of her when they got married and was willing to sacrifice his life for her to b...

The wives of Nephis brothers and Sons of Ishmael

1 Nephi 18:9 After we had been driven forth for the space of many days, behold my brethren and the sons of Ishmael and also their wives began to dance and to sing, and to speak with such rudeness, yea even that they did forget by what power they had been brought thither, yea they were lifted up into exceeding rudeness. We see here that after they had traveled across the sea to the new land that besides the men we have their wives participating in forgetting about god. Happy to make it across to the promises land they began to sing and dance. They also also become as Nephi explains speaking with rudeness and that the y became exceedingly rude. What can cause a person to become ungrateful in their heart? That once they reach a point in their life just to feel grateful but then turn around and be ungrateful? Have you ever found yourself doing the same thing? Ever pray for a miracle and then when you get it still unsatisfied by the blessing? I feel like I'm life we look for great mi...

The 5 Daughters of Ishmael Mourn

1 Nephi 16:35 And it came to pass that the daughters of Ishmael did mourn exceedingly, because of the loss of their father, and because of the afflictions in the wilderness. The daughters of Ishmael mourn because they loss their father in the wilderness. Many of us have lost someone in our life a friend, a sibling, a parent, a grandparent or some sort of acquintance. The thing that our church teaches is that we have an opportunity to be together again in heaven. "God, in his infinite capacity, seals and heals individuals and families despite tragedy, loss, and hardship. We sometimes compare the feelings we experience in temples as having caught a glimpse of heaven."  Elder Sale G. Remind ( talk April 2018 family history and temple work: Sealing and Healing) Many times those voices resonate from afar and so near in the loss of our loved ones. One of the things I have been learning is the whole purpose of the temple. One of the things that we can do is being families together ...

Woman of Blood Issue

The Woman with the blood issue story is found in the New Testament in the books of Mathew 9:20-22, Mark 5:25-34, and Luke 8:43-48. We have in her story three different books it is shared in from the bible, we have three stories from three different people telling it the best way that they remembered the events ,and we have three witnesses to explain and tell her story of what they had seen. Bringing us to incompleteness of her story from her bringing together what her body was going through for twelve years, mentally how she was starting to feel with her condition, and how her spirit desires the healing Christ brought to her. We know that this woman was diseased with a blood issue what type we are unsure of doesn't say. It could be been something of the flesh like a hemophilia goes through, or it could be another thing such as someone who has chronic ITP dealing with clotting issues, or as many of us women know about periods just keep bleeding and never stop. I like to believe it ...

Rachel,Leah, Zilpah, Bilhah

How would the twelve tribes of Israel come about if it wasn't for the mothers of each tribe who are Rachel, Leah, Zilpah, and Bilhah. Each one of them playing a role into the life and being a wife to Jacob. Each bearing children of their own to be considered one day as their own tribe. In the story of each one we have a sister rivalry going on, we have handmaidens being used as pawns in the rivalry. We see the sisters even finally come together and work with their husband to leave their fathers place. They even ask about their own inheritance of their is anything left for them. What can we possibly learn from the sister Rachel and Leah and God's plan that came from them? What can we learn from the handmaidens that were used as pawns in the rivalry? How can we look at our own relationship with our own siblings that we might have going on that cause a rivalry? What do you think we can do to help strengthen the sisterhood of friendships we might have with others around us? I...

Ishmael Daughters Marry( Book of Mormon)

1 Nephi 7:1 sons should take daughters to wife, that they might raise sees up to the Lord in the land of promise. 1 Nephi 16:7  And it came to pass that I Nephi, took one of the daughters of Ishmael to wife, and also my brothers took of daughters of ish!ask to wife, and also Zorah took the eldest daughter of Ishmael to wife. The fact that it wasn't just for Ishmael's family to go alone in the wilderness but also Ishmael's family. God considered that Lehi's sons needed marriage and to have off spring of their own to be brought up in his promises land. To me it shows that God sees the importance of marriage through all the generations. Going back to genesis with Adam and Eve where God explains that man is not meant to be alone. Man is meant to have a wife in marriage to travel together and work together to travel in the journey of life together as a partners in upbringing of the family. I know the world has gone to belief of other ways. Even I followed that path for a...

Ishmael Daughters Traveling

1 Nephi 7:6 And it came to pass that as we journeyed in the wilderness, behold Lamen and Lamuel, and two of the daughters of Ishmael and their families did rebel against us, yea against me, Nephi , and sam, and their father, ishmael, and his wife, and his three other daughters. This part of the story of Ishmael family traveling in the wilderness reminds me of families in vacation. Trying to enjoy each other's company but wondering why the other family members want to go and do their separate thing. Then the fight breaks out because no one really wants to work together. Causing them a rift in the family. You have the one side wanting to follow the itenary and the other side that wants to go against everything planned. How many times in life so we want as a family in  whole to follow God itenary in his commandments. So as a family for awhile we follow in the wilderness of life everything as a family. Our faith them grows what our parents have taught and we do what we are suppose to...
