Nephite Wives that know God
Jacob 2:7-9
And also it grieveth me that I must use so much boldness of speech concerning,you, before your wives and your children, many of those feelings are exceedingly tender and chaste and delicate before god, which thing is pleasing into god; and it supposeth me that they have come up hither to hear the pleasing word of god, yea, the word which healeth the wounded soul.
The wives of the Nephites as Jacob described to the husband s had feelings that are tender and chaste towards the lord. They were also delicate and pleasing unto god. Jacob being at the temple speaking tells the men that their wives came out to hear the word of god. Letting the people know that God's word can heal the wounded soul. The mothers taught their children and the feelings within the children came from the teachings of their mothers.
These women knew the importance of teaching and taking charge and being an example to their children. for the women cared for the children in return They had the same testimony that their mothers shared. Teaching them of god and showing them how to have faith and be pure of heart. They were at the temple participating in worship and were there to listen like we do at general conferences go to the temple to hear the prophets words.
Henry B Erying (Women and the Gospel Learning 2018) said "The Savior is your perfect example of how you will play a major part in his move to place a greater emphasis on learning in the home" Jacob then recognized the example of these women had on the home and what they were bringing to the family as the prophets and apostles do today. Nothing has changed over time. We are the ones that are the greatest teachers in the instruction in our homes to teach gospel principles to our families. Even though we play a role with our husbands to work on being equals in raising some of us our in able to do that. Being a single mother of not a mother at all we still have a responsibility in the learning in our own homes or to our church family in learning and showing others out testimonies. We never know whose life God is playing a part to have you touch to bring them back to him.
These women in the Nephite community along with their husbands went together as a family to hear God's word. They believed that it was the right thing and Jacob recognized them by giving them praise in what God wanted them to hear. He let them know that they had wounded souls probably from the things that happened in life but they healed into his word and that was bringing a healing in their life and children's life. They were using the gifts that God gave them and accepted his call to be the matriarch in the family. To develop with in themself a belief and understanding to God's word and took the teachings and taught them to their children. They participated in temple worship along with listening to the prophets words when they were able to. They knew God is the healer of their wounded souls and he is the one that could bring all the peace to them and their children through God's teachings of his word to all. They knew him and that's what their hearts showed by their works of being tender and chaste.
How can we bring what we need to go out children as the Nephi's women did? How can we bring the savior into our homes and nurture our children in his learning? I know I have a lot to work on but I do know their are things that I do that truly impact my children. Whatever our situation we can learn to be pure in God's word and bring the Gospel into our homes for our family.
