Esau's Wives Adah,Aholibamah, and Bashemath
In Genesis we have Esau marrying Adah the daughter of So on who is a Hittite. The other side is Aholibamah the daughter of Anah of Zibeon who is a Hivite. There is not much mentioned about the two except they were a disappointment to Esau's parents. To rectify and try to calm things down with Esau's parents after noticing that they were sending his brother off; we find Esau goes out and married Bashemath an Ishmael's daughter sister to Nebojoth.
The story of these wives made me think of how we can do an action that another finds disappointing in our behavior. Then the way we try to gain acceptance and rectify our past behaviors. The love Esau must have had for these women even though it wasn't approved must have been heartbreaking to them. Trying to find a place among their inlaws. In marriages in a relationship or whatever it may be how many of us try to do all we can to get accepted by them? They try to keep your spouse or significant other close to them and you find still that relationships are at a point of ruin. You look forward with hope and see your significant other still trying to get acceptance with no prevail from their parents trying to get your acceptance from them? How do you let them know and also feel okay with being in the spot? Is it possible in your own heart to know that love of you don't let outside influences get in to develop on your relationship? Makes me think of my own relationship with my husband when his mom was alive. She demanded attention of my husband and even tried to talk my husband into leaving. Yet I can see my husband at times trying to play the part of the devils advocate torn between what his heart wanted in his relationship and his mother. He tried to please her and I at times wondered why she would tear him down because he was with me . It was always a fight with her on how I raised my children and the way she wanted him to raise them. Hard at times that these women being as Rachel described as outcasts of what they believed could be hard to find their place in the family. How many of us fight to find out place in that new family? Yet if we know our own strength and belief and who we are can we get through and make the best in our own homes in raising our children. Doors it really matter what another think when we find that hope and understanding in our own relationship with our significant other. Yes it might impact our children yet it is possible to achieve in our own house a way of showing kindness and acceptance towards others who disagree.
We also see in this tripod that Esau married an Ishmael's daughter Bashemath to please his parents. How many times do we look for ways to please our parents? We listen and watch how they treat a sibling and look for that same acceptance. We want acceptance and we want to feel love from those that raised us. It doesn't matter the path that we have taken its knowing that they love us and accept us for our choices in life. My mother always said to us " No matter your path I might not agree upon your choices in life but I am here always to love you? "
with my Mothers words in mind I think about how our heavenly father watches over us on a daily basis. Possibly praying for each one of his spirit children to do what is right. The thing I see is he lets us choose our path. Even if he might not agree on everything that we do he gives us that agency. He waits for us to return like the story of the prodigal son asking for his forgiveness that we didn't listen to the words that have been spoken through scriptures, those around us, our parents, even prophets of the lord. He waits for our return and through all our mistakes all our trials he loves us no matter what. We might do the things in life that might not be an approval and then try to rectify those things that hurt by bringing in a way to get a pleasing reaction. Yet through it all the acceptance we need to know is we are human. We have been given the choice to choose our paths. Yet in the end we want acceptance from those that don't want to give it so we try to rectify our choice and make a change in our life. In the end its our choice and the way we want to learn and how we come back to the Lord to rectify our want of approval. In the end no matter where we are on our paths God still loves us and is waiting with open arms to show his mercy on our hearts.
