Shiphrah and Puah
We find Shiphrah and Puah's story in Exodus 1:15-21. They are the midwives around the time that Moses was born. The King of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives who happened to be Shiphrah and Puah asking them when the women giving birth were among the stools to kill the male child. But these midwives feared god, and didn't do as the long asked if them. When called to the King he asked why they saved the men children? Their response in verse 19 was the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women: for They are lovely , and are delivered ere the midwives come into them. Because the midwives didn't do as the King asked God dealt with them and multiplied the Hebrew people. Because the midwives feared god not than Pharoah himself God made them houses.
The thing that crosses my mind with these two women is they knew who they were with god. That they feared more to go against God than to stand with him. They knew that even if they ended up facing death that God was still lighter than pharoah and that he would bless them.
I look as will at the meanings of the names Shiphrah means brightness and Puah means splendid. You can look at how their names meaning probably brought that splendid brightness to the women of Hebrew that they weren't going to loose their sons after birth. I know if I was in that time I would be grateful to these women for showing that brightness of rather caring on the Lord's work than that of the world and disobeying the King. They knew life was valuable to be carried on. They show us of being an example of doing right in God's eyes by upholding the moral principles of life to be able to carry on in God's will that it's each an individual choice not one man to bring about destruction. They were born at a time that God knew that these women would be chosen and asked to do a hard choice against his plan. But because they chose and knew who they were with god on their side they protected life and delivered life to these Mothers and fathers to bring about joy in their homes. How these women actively aided in these newborns to live, helping the Israelites to become more fruitful. These righteous women values life they have hope to the Israelites for a future.
How can knowing who we are with god help us do the right thing like Shiphrah and Puah? I'm Sheri Dew talk of "knowing who you are and who you always have been" Sheri Dew said, " This women of God who know who they are have unusual and sometimes unexpected influences. " We never know the affect of our influence who we have impacted for good or bad usually in life. I know their are people that my parents have impacted because of the kindness of their hearts. Some have cherished what they have done because of the hardship they faced that my parents have them a way to get over that hurdle in their life. Even their children appreciated all that my parents have done. We get to see through history and the recording of Shiphrah and Puah how it impacted the people of Israel. They helped them flourish in building up a nation. The other thing that we see with them fearing God more than man is that they were able to move along God's plan on being a delivered of the deliverer that would help free them from the Egyptians.
We see from the words of the scriptures they were blessed. When we put God above all else in the world and help his miracles along to progress in his work he in returns and blessed us. Without them and even today with us being willing to do God's work would be able to move forward. Trust in god and pray to learn what his plan is for you to help move forward without fear of man.
Job 26:13 by his wind the heavens were calmed. This verse describes to me describes how these midwives helped calm the dark cloud above Israel and restore them to the need that God has for his chosen people. Helping along the way the redemption to follow God's plan. How can we find peace to calm our storms? How can we be like these women in knowing who we put and chosen to do God's work? How can we deliver each other in the ministering of human kindness? The midwives Shiphrah and Puah knew who they were with god played such a crucial role in disobeying the King of Egypt that they brought forth the one that would save them from the captivity they were in being slaves to the egyptians. Just the same way Christ has done for us by giving us the atonement. Being a slave to our own desires until we turn to him and accept in our lives. He delivers us to his work and uses us in helping him continue his work to help bring mankind back to his father's house. The need is great and he has called each one of us like the midwives to fear more him than the world. As we see with the midwives he protected them to get his will done and in return he blessed them for being righteous women of influence in playing a role to his plan in freeing the Israelites from the Egyptians.
