Jairus' Daughter
Here We have a story of a young girl at the age of twelve years old whose father was Jairus. Who Mathew9:23-26 and Like 8:49-56 the people know she is sick and believe she is asleep and dying. And in Mark 5:35- a servant comes and says not to bother Jesus anymore that Jairus' daughter is dead. Asking why he bother the master anymore? But I love Jesus response when he heard the words "be not afraid, only believe!" When he gets to the house he asks why they weep? And takes her parents into the room where the daughter is along with some of his disciples. Telling the girl Talitha cumi" interpreted as damsel arise. And she arose and Jesus them tells them to get something for her to eat. Everyone was astonished for the miracle that was performed.
Elder Oaks in his talk "Healing the Sick" gives five points in the authority of a Priesthood Blessing. "There are five parts to the use of priesthood authority to bless the sick: (1) the anointing, (2) the sealing of the anointing, (3) faith, (4) the words of the blessing, and (5) the will of the Lord." In the miracle of Jarius daughter we see Christ use each one of these particular elements. The main one we see her parents and herself use is faith. With Christ's will and words to his blessing upon Jarius daughters head we see how the faith and trust in letting Christ be able to perform his miracle letting her live. What is faith of its not believing? I find Christ's words of telling everyone "be not afraid, only believe" rings true to how much faith we can put into him to heal our souls.
The words be not afraid. What in our lives can we be afraid of that holds us back from believing God's work completely? How can turning out hearts to god trully help us in being able to believe. Christ have blessings to all no matter what was needed. How can a Priesthood Blessing today no matter if sick or healing from a past mistakes or an action someone did to us help us know that God is there for us? What other things can priesthood blessing help heal? How can knowing the authority and the true power of God's power be a comfort?
What amazes me more about the healing is when he said to get the girl something to eat? She was sick and now healed she now needed some sort of strength to even after Christ's blessing. She needed food to build up on that strength. Just like when we believe and our healed and find Christ's hand in our path we still need to build upon his word our testimonies in him. Line upon line precept upon precept we still need to learn to keep ourself on that path of righteousness. How else our we able to stay strong in his word unless we keep learning of him and realize the mercies he gives us to keep learning of him.
