Mary and the Nativity

The Nativity scene is will known and we tell the story so much around Christmas of Christ's birth. I think about the travels Mary made and sacrificed being so far along to travel. Then to be told there is no room after room to be directed to the stable. The directions that God led Joseph and Mary to a place to sleep that would be room enough for those who came to worship would be able to fit. So much symbolism in the manger scene. But also so much of a willingness of a mother to share her son's birth with those around that were led to her. Even after birth how exhausted but joyful and willing to do God's will. Being announced through angels, through signs that Christ has finally been born to save us all. As Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem I wonder the agony and despair that was brought in trying to find a room. Being told there was no room in the inns for them. Then to find an innkeeper even though there was no room and just possibly praying in there hearts that they...

Esau's Wives Adah,Aholibamah, and Bashemath

In Genesis we have Esau marrying Adah the daughter of So on who is a Hittite. The other side is Aholibamah the daughter of Anah of Zibeon who is a Hivite. There is not much mentioned about the two except they were a disappointment to Esau's parents. To rectify and try to calm things down with Esau's parents after noticing that they were sending his brother off; we find Esau  goes out and married Bashemath an Ishmael's daughter sister to Nebojoth. The story of these wives made me think of how we  can do an action that another finds disappointing in our behavior. Then the way we try to gain acceptance and rectify our past behaviors. The love Esau must have had for these women even though it wasn't approved must have been heartbreaking to them. Trying to find a place among their inlaws. In marriages in a relationship or whatever it may be how many of us try to do all we can to get accepted by them? They try to keep your spouse or significant other close to them and you fi...

Mary's Song

Luke1: 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. 54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. When Mary meets her cousin Elizabeth and is told the prophecy from her cousins mouth of how people will call her blessed; Mary's gives a song of praise. A lot of people ...

Mentioning of Sarah in the Book of Mormon

2Nephi 8:1-3 Hearken unto me, he that follow after righteousness. Look unto the rock from whence he are hewn, and to the whole of the pit from whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham, your father, and into Sarah, she that bare you; for I called him alone, and blessed him. For the Lord shall comfort Zion he will comfort all her waste places; like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody. I find it interesting in Nephi how it is called of the people to remember Abraham and Sarah. Why did he mention them and ask them to remember her? I believe it has to do with the example that these parents of nations have shown. He was asking the people to remember the one that bared them through there ancestory. If you think about the things that Sarah finally had to do? I'm the end she had to learn to trust the Lord for the blessings that would become theirs and settle on the impossible to be made possible. Fo...

Deborah Rebekah's Nurse

Here We have a member of the family that isn't quit familyfamily she was Rebekah's nurse. Who know s exactly the reason Rebekah needed a nurse whether she was her wet nurse or a caregiver for her or what? We do know that from the time that she left her father's house she was sent with Rebekah. The other thing we know is she was sent by Rebekah to let Jacob know it was safe to return and on her journey back she died along the way. The family had great respect her that they stopped and remembered her at her gravesite. She was sent to care for Rebekah away from her family. It seems that she was more than just a nurse to Rebekah but more like a mother figure. They had to of shared some sort of bond through everything that they have gone through. Back then set nurses had a high role in helping with raising and helping give nutrition to children whose mothers were unable to feed for themself. She was willing to go with Rebekah to her new home with isaac. How many of us would be ...

Pilate's Wife

Claudia Procula Pilate's wife is one that made me actually cry when I read about her. Such a small mention but very significant in the seeds that she made to save jesus. She was Roman born of high status and being well-educated and wealthy in status. Her role in trying to save Christ from his death shows me what type of character she had. Speaking to her husband against killing an innocent man. She listened to her inner voice condemning her husband of the work that was playing out in front of her. She heard God's voice wherever it came from knowing and telling Pilate that Jesus was an innocent man? God was giving Pilate a chance to do what was right. She listened to her own conscience and stood up for a man she didn't particularly know. As a Roman woman they played a powerful role behind the scene. She was impelled to act and do the right thing. She risked her own life and went against the crowd asking her husband not to condemn christ. A poem I found online hit me: ...

Jacob talks about Chastity of Women

Jacob 2:27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife ; and concubines he shall have none; 28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women . And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts. Jacob a prophet and Nephi's brother talks to the people at the temple about the chastity of women. How important it is for men and women to recognize they sanctity throughout time on women's chastity. What does it actually mean to have chastity? The Merriam- Webster Dictionary meaning 1.quality or state of being chaste: such as abstention from sexual intercourse, purity in conduct and intention, restraint and simplicity in design or expression. 2. Personal integrity. Jacob is asking the men to uphold the chastity of women and asking the women to stay true to there chastity. As Merriam Webster Dictionary he wanted them to watch out for the women's integrity and res...

Dinah

My thoughts on the whole story of Dinah comes from personal experience with sin and love. I understand today why God says wait until your married to have children to do the things that a married couple should do. You develop attachments and even though people say love can't develop i believe differently. It does make you feel according of values believed different. In Dinah's story we see that she goes wandering into the city. We are not told all the details of the story. We are only told that Schechem defiled her. What does that mean to be defiled? According to the dictionary it is a verb which means to desecrate, or violate the charity of a woman. With that being said her chasity was taken from her. I know I read a lot of stories were people believe it was rape and she was kidnapped. I see her story in a different point of view. A lot dealing with my past and where it took me. When I look at Dinah going into town to see the women of the area. I see the seriousness of anothe...

Nephite Wives that know God

Jacob 2:7-9 And also it grieveth me that I must use so much boldness of speech concerning, you, before your wives and your children, many of those feelings are exceedingly tender and chaste and delicate before god, which thing is pleasing into god; and it supposeth me that they have come up hither to hear the pleasing word of god, yea, the word which healeth the wounded soul. The wives of the Nephites as Jacob described to the husband s had feelings that are tender and chaste towards the lord. They were also delicate and pleasing unto god. Jacob being at the temple speaking tells the men that their wives came out to hear the word of god. Letting the people know that God's word can heal the wounded soul. The mothers  taught their children and the feelings within the children came from the teachings of their mothers. These women knew the importance of teaching and taking charge and being an example to their children. for the women cared for the children in return They had the same...
