Tamar and Judah

Taking of Destiny into her own Hands The story here of Tamar and Judah is from Genesis chapter 38. Judah was married to a Caananite woman. They had three sons. His eldest son Er married Tamar and then does because of his unrighteousness. He then had a second son that he told to marry her. He didn't want to and he ended up during as will. There was a third son but he felt he was to young and didn't want the same thing that happened to his older brothers happen to him. So he told Tamar to go and sorrow about her husband. Not to be with any man until his son was ready and of age. Soon after Judah's wife dies. He goes looking among the harlots. Tamar heard that he was coming and disguised herself as a harlot. She asked for three things from Judah his bracelets, staff his ring and a sheep. He said that he would bring the sheep later. Sending out his servant to find the harlot after the event happened. He then hears that Tamar played a harlot. Going to confront her of her actio...

Mary and Joseph Search for Jesus

we have in Luke 2:41-51 the story of Mary and Joseph going to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. In the year that Jesus was 12 years old they went for the custom of the Passover feast. As the feast had been fulfilled and as they were returning Joseph and his mother knew that Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem. They assumed he was in the company as they traveled back and while they journeyed almost a days out of traveling they realized he wasn't there after they looked among their kinfolk and acquintances. They then headed back to Jerusalem seeking him out. Three days later they find him in the temple among the doctors both hearing them, and asking them questions.  Everyone that heard him were astonished with his understanding and answers. When they saw him in the temple they were amazed. His mother(Mary)  said to him" Son, why hast thou this dealt with us? Behold, they father and I have sought there sorrowing. Jesus them answers  " How is it that he sought me? What he...

Shiphrah and Puah

We find Shiphrah and Puah's story in Exodus 1:15-21. They are the midwives around the time that Moses was born. The King of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives who happened to be Shiphrah and Puah asking them when the women giving birth were among the stools to kill the male child. But these midwives feared god, and didn't do as the long asked if them. When called to the King he asked why they saved the men children? Their response in verse 19 was the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women: for They are lovely , and are delivered ere the midwives come into them. Because the midwives didn't do as the King asked God dealt with them and multiplied the Hebrew people. Because the midwives feared god not than Pharoah himself God made them houses. The thing that crosses my mind with these two women is they knew who they were with god. That they feared more to go against God than to stand with him. They knew that even if they ended up facing death that God was still lighter tha...

Mary Hears the Words of Simeon

Like 2:34-35 And Simeon blessed them, and said into Mary his mother, behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through the own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. How would it be to have a stranger reveal a prophesy of what will happen to your child? Here you are with your spouse to present your son as told to do what is needed according to the law. I wonder if Mary thought as will how can a sword pierce my own soul? The words were spoken to Mary of her child of how he had come for the fall of man from the garden and the rising of breaking mortality for immortality to bring many souls back to god. Letting her know the prophecy that have been spoken from the begging is being fulfilled through her son. How much could those words be a preparation into her raising of Jesus? How much of a preparation could they have been as will to help her when they raised h...

Mary Follows the Law of Moses

We see in Luke 2:21-24 that when the right days had come about after Christ's birth he was circumcised according to the law. Then we see after the days of purification Mary going to the temple with her son to present him to the Lord as will as her to do her sacrifice of two turtledoves or two young pigeons. All this was done according to the law of Moses in that day. When given birth to a son it was also considered holy. She followed the words of a prophet and law of the land of the day. She did the things that was commanded according to carry out the ordinances and covenants of a righteous person. Like Mary did back then we can do today in following the prophets words in making covenants with the lord. What does it mean to actually make a covenant for the lord? It's when we make an agreement with the lord to follow his commandments. In Rosemary M. Dixon's talk "Keeping Covenants Protects Us, Prepared Us, And Empowers Us April 2014" she says We are covenant-makin...

Jairus' Daughter

Here We have a story of a young girl at the age of twelve years old whose father was Jairus. Who Mathew9:23-26 and Like 8:49-56 the people know she is sick and believe she is asleep and dying. And in Mark 5:35- a servant comes and says not to bother Jesus anymore that Jairus' daughter is dead. Asking why he bother the master anymore? But I love Jesus response when he heard the words "be not afraid, only believe!" When he gets to the house he asks why they weep? And takes her parents into the room where the daughter is along with some of his disciples. Telling the girl Talitha cumi" interpreted as damsel arise. And she arose and Jesus them tells them to get something for her to eat. Everyone was astonished for the miracle that was performed. Elder Oaks in his talk "Healing the Sick" gives five points in the authority of a Priesthood Blessing. "There are five parts to the use of priesthood authority to bless the sick: (1) the anointing, (2) the sealing ...

Asenath

I've been reading online different things about Asenath. The different theories. There's even a story of Joseph and Asenath talking about Asenath's conversion to the gospel. In the story both of them thought of each other as worthy components to be married. Then she sees Joseph and like s what she sees. And she then contends with her own side and finally converts over to Joseph's God and then Joseph comes back and takes her to wife after three days. Because now she was worthy to be married. Today while I was thinking on the stories that I had seen and asenath the thought crossed my mind " Joseph was taught by his mother and father the ways of god. It was instilled into him as a young child until he was sold into egypt. He recognized the truth of things for what they were by god. Being the reason he was able to help pharoah. So if Joseph had an understanding of listening to the holy ghost he would be able to listen to the holy spirit of who he should marry. He woul...

Potipher's Wife

The Temptress to Joseph Here is a story of the temptress in the scriptures of trying to get a righteous  man (Joseph) of god to lay down with her even though she was married. Personally I think she shows how we can try to use our influence as a women for good or evil. Depending what we want our of the lusts of our hearts what we can make a goal and aim and go after. Potipher's wife found the slave that her husband brought into her house attractive. She would make straightforward passes at him daily to lie down with her. Every single day she kept trying and trying even though her advanced never phased him and he kept denying her. The want of being turned down time after time again grew that she lusted more for Joseph. When she finally physically grabbed Joseph's garments causing him to run from the house. Leaving the raiment of his clothing in her hands. Calling all around her seeking revenge on Joseph saying he attacked her. Telling the story over and over again to those ...
