Peter's Mother In-law
Found in mathew 8:14-15, Mark 5:22-24, and Luke 8:41,49-56
In the story of Peter's mother in-law Christ walks into Peter's house. Seeing Peter's wife's mother laying there sick in bed due to a fever. Jesus touches her hand and the fever left her. She then arose and ministers to them.(paraphrased)
It amazes me the faith she had to of had from being sick to getting up and persuming her household duties. How many of us after having a fever even want to get up and clean house? I know i would rather take the extra time and feel better. When we look at how much strength returned to her and how she was renewed in health we can see how christ can work in us when we feel sick or troubled. When we least expect that renewal to come in our life we feel as though we can do anything. That energy that seems to bring renewal in belief in christ. Have you ever gone through a period od time that you found that restoration of strength even if it is to carry on in your day through prayer or relying on the teachings of christ? I know there are days i find i dont want to move and i start to pray asking god to help me do what ever it is needed for me throughout the day and be present for those who need me.
I find also through Peter's mother in law we get to see the power of intercession from her. The importance of that intercession shows by the way she channels that blessing she just received of health to giving each person there ministry from herself. She seen a dire need to go about gods work in taking care of their needs after her needs of help were healed. She had a natural reponse to serve gratitude to the blessing she just received to give back. As we see sicknesses can be used as a healing to bring rest to our bodies but it can also teach us what we can do for others by the simple golden rule of doing unto others as we want done back to us.
I love the fact that in the scriptures that it ahows how peter loved his mother in law. Knowing that she was sick he brought christ to her. Its also a very loving gesture to how much he loves his wife by caring for that person she loves. Because of that love and repsect that he cared for his motherin law she was healed by jesus in her time of need. Finding that delight to have goodness spread to her through one that cares for all of us. In the end she shows that she has delight in showing love back by giving all she could in ministering to her needs after hers were met. The hospitality and live come full circle when we show that type of love one to another. How can we do the same for others we care so deeply about? To show christ is there with love to heal and meet each others needs?
